A "DMP ID" in a DMP online tool refers to a unique persistent identifier for a Data Management Plan (DMP) created within the tool, essentially acting as a unique reference number for that specific research project's data management plan.

A DMP ID can be generated when a user finalises and registers their Data Management Plan.

To generate a DMP ID within the DMPTool, navigate to the "Finalize" tab of your data management – “Register your plan for DMP ID” section.

To register the plan/generate a DMP ID, a few conditions need to be met.

The main reasons you may not be able to register the plan are:

  • you have not answered at least 50% of questions on the “Write Plan” panel
  • you did not link your DMP tool account to your ORCiD (if you do not have ORCiD, you need to create one)

Other conditions needed for registration are:

  • only the creator of the plan may register a DMP ID.
  • identify your funder on the Project Details panel (e.g. Charles Darwin University)
  • make sure the plan is not flagged as a mock project on the Project Details panel

DMP ID is required for completion of the RDM Online Module for HDR students (section 8). Carefully review section 7 of the unit, particularly slides 15-19, which provide detailed instructions about the DMP Tool and DMP ID creation

For more information about DMP Tool, refer to the RDM Library Guide.
